My first year of teaching

I still remember when I started to work in this marvelous profession. I was 20 years old and very curious about classrooms and teaching strategies. I remember I had a mentor who always was helping and supporting me with advice and friendship.

At the beginning, I thought I was going to be easy and that students were going to enjoy all my classes. I was so wrong about this. Students hated to be in a class and even more, they hated to be studying a second language. They were complaining all the time about the lesson, the topics, and the teacher. :-( I was sad and I felt very frustrated.

I thought about quitting and maybe trying with a different profession. However, I started to talk with some other teachers and they told me about all their bad and good experiences during their first years of teaching. This helped me to understand better my situation and how I could change my attitude to teach a class. I understood that it was not just me, every teacher has experienced frustration and despair when they have students that do not want to study or work. At the end, I felt that I could overcome these obstacles and that working harder, I could show to my students how important was to learn and acquire knowledge.

I have been working as a teacher for 10 years and I feel happy and satisfied with all the work   I have been doing with every student that has entered to my classroom.
